Why can't I set default working hours as 7.5 per day?

Tom Cowles

I've tried several times to edit the time tracking default hours per day from 7 to 7.5. It allows me to make the change, then shows up as having saved as 7.5. However, when I navigate away to another screen, then navigate back, this has reset to 7 hours again.

What gives?

Ok, I found it.  We're both right, sort of.

Jira Server supports partial hours (I now have a working day 3.14 hours long as I tried to test it with π and it only let me have two digits)

This function has been removed from Cloud, and it now silently rounds up to the nearest integer hour without telling you.

Seems like someone has downgraded Cloud for no apparent reason - I can't see an issue or blog explaining why it's been done.

I'd guess this is a bug, not a downgrade. I will raise this with their support desk.

With Cloud breaking so many things now, I'm lost on whether to call something a bug or a downgrade!

I've raised it with the service desk for anyone interested in following this.

https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/23/JST-424874?_ga=2.41883234.111631883.1538996631-1366096534.1538569729&_gac=1.204785956.1538742994.EAIaIQobChMIrpLIqajv3QIVCLXtCh1zXwHHEAAYASAAEgKwL_D_BwE

I am confident they will fix this, as having it as it is will make all the reporting data incorrect in regards to resources and their capacity!

I agree... this is not resolved.. It does not work

As far as I can see I am unable to set a working day to a decimal place - 7.5 hours...

Please see my screenshots @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- please HELP

Hi Tom,

Could you please confirm you have deactivated time tracking, changed the value to 7.5 and re-enabled time tracking? Just tried it here and it's working well!

Cheers

Hi Micky

When I click 'disable time tracking' all fields disappear and there's no option to edit anything, only the option of re-enabling time tracking - I get this message:

"Time tracking is currently disabled for all projects. To access time tracking options and log work in issues enable time tracking above."

I've tried logging 7.5 hours under a task, and it is showing as '1 day', but I've a feeling this is just rounding down.

Cheers,

Tom

That implies your change has worked - Jira would display 7h 30m if your day was still set to 8h

Originally it was set to 7h, so I suppose it would say 1d 30mins? Either way I'll assume it has, thanks for your help.

Also if you edit working hours under issues timetracking it does NOT show/allow 7.5 it sets it to 7 so the edit field needs to be changed to support decimals and actually show them.

Has anyone solved this mystery? :) I encounter the same issue...

Yes - I can confirm this is a UI issue, but the settings are in fact correct.

I set the time tracking to be 7.5 hours in a day - save.

Created a task - estimate: 1d

Logged time - 30mins

Remaining estimate - 7 hours

Folks,

raised this before. It is stored and calculated as 7.5 AND Atlassian is to lazy to change the display setting.  The current setting does not show decimals. It seems to me to be trivial to change it to show 2 decimals...but Noooooooo that would be way to sensible.....

Yep on reflection it indeed doesn't work. I set as 7.5, the change appears to stick, then shows as 7 again when reloading the page
