Great question. While the field is called "story points" the concept being applied is estimating effort and I think you can feel confident using that field for all issue types you pull into the sprint (bugs, tasks, stories). I suggest using the same system (Fibonacci, t-shirt sizes, etc.) to estimate all Jira issues in the sprint and save it in the "story points" field. That way you can use the values in that field to determine your team's velocity.
