is there a specific permission to configure for an API token

derrick_sualog August 5, 2024

In Jira, is there a specific permission to configure for an API token that would allow the associated user to create an issue?

Hi, I just want to confirm that there are no concerns on our end, as we are integrating another app with Jira using an API token. However, there's an issue where the other application is unable to create issues to migrate to Jira.

Hi @derrick_sualog ,

Yes, the user that has create the token that is being used to authencating will need browse project and create issue permission for the project you're wanting to create issues in.

Permissions required: Browse projects and Create issues project permissions for the project in which the issue or subtask is created.

Thanks

Thank you @Sam Spencer  . Just to clarify, if I can create an issue manually within that JIRA project, does that mean the permissions are set correctly?

Yes,

If you're the user that credentials are being used for the API username / token and your the user logged in to do it manually it will be the same permissions.

Hi @derrick_sualog

The jira api integration user should have permissions on jira for the user to perform necessary actions on jira via api. This is same for any authentication method you use be it token or basic.

Make sure the user has create issue permission on the desired project.

Hope this helps you!
