I've found out that our project has SIL Power Custom Fields installed and maybe this is the solution for my problem. Unfortunately I have no clue of working with SIL itself but the scripts seem very powerful to me (after I've added a custom field and did some tests with the scripts in the documentation).
Our issue hierarchy is
Initiative
Epic (linked via standard link to initiative)
Story (linked via Epiclink to the Epic)
How would a SIL script look like to fill a custom field on the story screen with the ID of the Initiative (linked to the epic)?
Like issueFunction in linkedIssuesOfAll('issueFunction in linkedIssuesOfAll("issue = STORY-1") and type = epic') and type = initiative
