Hi,
My client 'wishes' to
a) Close a task (Resolution=Done) while sub-task is NOT completed, and
b) While working on sub-task, doesn't want Task to be in 'In Progress" status. Apparently this, in my understanding, will invalidate the parent-child dependencies and will not satisfy the status's definition.
Is this doable? Would that be ethical to do?
Your attention and help is highly appreciated. :)
Hi @Hotovaga - I am not sure I completely follow what you are trying to do.
Do you want the sub-task to be in a different status than the parent? Does it not already allow that to happen?
Hi Frank,
Thanks for a front liner in the community.
No, my questions were, a: when I'm still working on a sub task, it should not trigger the status of the 'task' to be displayed as 'in progress' and b: showing the resolution for the 'task' as completed when a sub ask is in progress.
In short, parent's status based on the progression of the sub task (in progress, done etc.)

Okay, are you saying that is happening? Because it shouldn't out of the box. If the parent is changing with the sub-task changes then it sounds like there is some automation plugged in somewhere.

@John Funk , Thanks again for your follow-up!
It's the clients' wish THAT when a sub task is in progress, it should not trigger /display the status of the 'task' as 'in progress'. In other words, they want to see the status of the task as 'resolved' even when the subtask is NOT done or in progress..
My question is: Can I select (manually or otherwise) the status of a Task as Done when a subtask (part of the said Task) is NOT completed?
Again, thanks for your inputs.

Yes, you can do that, as long as you do not have a condition on the transition to Done for the task that prevents that.
I would suggest you create a couple of test tickets and just walk them through the board as desired and see if/where it doesn't work as you want it to.
