Upgrading Tomcat ONLY

robert_egan_305 September 30, 2020

We are currently running 8.9.0 and have a requirement to upgrade to a version that includes Tomcat 8.5.57. The product upgrade process can take some time, between testing, approvals, etc. and we have been given a very tight deadline.

We are considering only upgrading the tomcat executable in the bin folder. Would this void any kind of service/support agreements? After all, it is only a minor upgrade.

Yes, it will void all your support.

Jira is only supported on the version of Tomcat that Atlassian bundle with it (although that does include any patches released by Atlassian).  If you change the version of Tomcat, there are no guarantees it might work, and you are definitely not supported.

Atlassian could say "we're not looking at this until you are on a supported version".  Generally, they don't, they try to help, but any support call could easily come back to "use a supported version, then we'll talk"
