We are trying to use the Capacity View in Advanced Roadmaps (Plans) to manage team and user capacity.  We add the effort estimate under the "Original Estimate" field in hours, and set the Start Date and Due Date on the issues.

We would like to be able to pull the work items into a plan and see the capacity of a given team (and team members), based off the Duration (Start Date / Due Date) and effort (Original Estimate) in hours.

Can anyone provide some additional guidance on how the Capacity Planner in Plans rolls up a teams capacity when the effort is estimated in hours?  Or what fields need to be populated in order to accurately use the capacity planner?  We have tried working with the "remaining estimate" field but haven't been able to get this to populate.

@Boeing_ Nick

A fundamental concept to grasp is that Jira Plans intentionally prioritizes the "Remaining Estimate" over the "Original Estimate" for capacity planning. The "Estimates (h/d)" field within your plan directly corresponds to the "Time remaining" field on a Jira issue. This design choice is geared towards future planning, as it provides a more accurate picture of the work that still needs to be completed, rather than the initial scope. As work is logged on an issue, the "Time remaining" decreases, and this is reflected in the capacity view of your plan.

The alternative way to do capacity planning is Planyway for Jira addon.
It calculates workload based on the Original estimate.
