Velocity chart seems to be incorrect. What am I missing?

There is a conflict between one team's velocity chart and the story points shown in the Sprint Report. I can't figure why. Here is some context:

  • Jira Cloud
  • Classic project, not next-gen (for all projects)
  • Checked velocity reports from other projects, none show inconsistencies in story points (or anything else)
  • think all board & project settings are the same across boards, but... I haven't checked. Could that even have an effect?
  • new team, first sprint
  • Velocity Chart shows 33 committed and 23 completed.
  • Sprint Report shows 28 committed and 18 completed
  • The difference b/t committed & completed is 10 for both reports
  • FWIW, the Sprint Report is correct and the Velocity Chart is wrong.

Screen shots of each report:

Any ideas on what is going on here?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Hi @Jason Hayman ,

You may want to check your scrum board; there may be a status like "Cancelled" that is not mapped to the last column of the board.

@Scott Theus Thanks for the suggestion. I am not new to Jira, but am new to playing the admin. I looked in the following spots and saw no indication of an unused status:

  • project board -> board settings -> columns. This is very simple; there are only three. One status for each of 3 columns. Nothing in that unmapped column.
  • Jira settings -> issues -> workflows -> (project) -> workflow diagram. No unmapped statuses show here.
  • Jira settings -> statuses. I didn't see any red flags here, but I'm no expert admin.

Any other ideas on where to look? I'm happy to go hunting for it.

Thanks again.
