Hi @Ramesh Krishnan What is the rationale behind changing the sprint for closed stories?

In Jira Cloud, once a story (issue) is closed and the sprint is also closed, you cannot directly change the sprint associated with that issue via the UI. Jira locks the sprint field to preserve historical data integrity.

However, here are a few workarounds depending on your permissions and setup:

Workaround 1

  1. Reopen the work item
  2. Use "Move to another Sprint" or edit the Sprint field in the work item view (if the new sprint is open)
  3. Close the work item again after the change.

Note: This only works if you're moving it to an open sprint.

Workaround 2

  1. Export the work item(s) to Excel/CSV
  2. User that file to prepare a bulk import with the updated Sprint field using Jira's CSV import tool. You'll need the Sprint ID of the target sprint as well as Jira Admin permissions

I understand these workaround may not be to your satisfaction, but again, why would you change the sprint of a closed story? Correcting the velocity or estimated/committed values may not be beneficial.
