I have been testing add-ons to help us with our roadmap automated scheduling. Currently trying BigPicture and it is not clear to me that this tool provides automated resource leveling at this time?
We've also tried Advanced Roadmaps (which falls short) and Structure which doesn't offer this in their Cloud version. What are folks using to plan inside of Jira?
ActivityTimeline plugin is a resource planning tool that includes an Auto-Scheduling option. The feature is based on a user's estimate and available assignee.
If you have any additional requirements please feel free to ask me. We can provide a demo session for you if needed.

Has this feature already been implemented? the linked ticket ONE-2669 doesn't seem to exist any more. If it's implemented could you share a link to the documentation or a tutorial please?

None of the tools will autoschedule for you.
We actually sit down with teams and plan what will be completed on the next sprint or pi. Autoscheduling based on capacity will be very messy.
Cheers
