Marketplace - How to test Marketplace API

I have been developing some automation using the Marketplace API. However, I am wondering if there is a way to test API usage without actually updating a Marketplace listing. For example, change the description field of an add-on via a script.

You can do it in production itself and keep the app private. Publish a dummy app in private mode and then after testing delete it.
