The “new” Trello is coming soon to everyone! 🎉

👋 Hey Trello enthusiasts!

We’ve been beta testing a new Trello to enhance your personal productivity experience and soon, it will be generally available (GA) from May 21, 2025 onwards – if you’ve been participating in our beta program, we thank you for your valuable feedback!

Here are some updates we believe are important for you to note in preparation for this rollout:

🗓️ GA timeline of new features
Starting from May 21st through the end of July, we're gradually releasing the new Trello features to everyone.*

*Please note: if you’re on the Enterprise plan, these changes will take effect after July later this year for your account.

✅ Can't wait? Try out all the features now while you still have beta access!

As we prepare to make new features generally available, that means we’ll be winding down the open beta program. If you haven’t tried the new features in beta yet, we encourage you to navigate to your Trello account and click the “Beta” dropdown in the top right corner.

As we gradually roll out these updates to more users in the next few months, here are some of the latest features that we can’t wait for you to try:

  • 📥 Trello Inbox: say goodbye to lost to‑dos and scattered ideas! Use the new “Quick capture” functionality to forward your notes, emails, and saved messages from Slack or Microsoft Teams to a new Trello Inbox, which will hold them as cards until you have time to assign them onto your individual boards. Atlassian Intelligence (AI) can also assist in summarizing the content you have captured.

  • 🗓️ Trello Planner: No matter where you are—at your desk or on the move—you can easily schedule "Focus time" to concentrate on tackling specific Trello cards and tasks using Trello Planner. This feature allows for seamless integration with your favorite scheduling tools, such as Google Calendar.

  • 🧭 New navigation bar: the new navigation bar gives you an easier way to switch between your Inbox, Planner, and board — or view all three at the same time!

⛔️ Access changes to certain features
When the new features in Trello are GA, the following capabilities will be limited to users on the Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans:

  1. Scheduling within Trello Planner. You can still view the events that already exist on your calendar, but the ability to schedule or edit a “Focus time” will be limited to paid plans.

  2. Atlassian Intelligence (AI) for Quick capture. You can still capture your to-dos via email, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, but an AI summary won’t be available on the Trello card.

We encourage you to check out the Trello Pricing Page to learn more about the full list of Trello features that you can access under all of our plans.

🪄 Some additional UI changes to note for everyone:

  • Exciting changes are also coming to Trello's card back designs! When you click on a card, you'll discover a refreshed design that features a more compact and streamlined card back. This update reflects our commitment to simplicity, aiming to improve your experience as you organize and manage your tasks more effectively.

  • Once the new Trello features are GA for your account, it will not be possible to revert back to the previous versions of Trello’s user interface. We’re excited to continue supporting you in boosting your personal productivity!

🎉 We’re thrilled to bring you these latest updates in Trello soon to help you better tackle your to-dos and manage your personal productivity! Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm.

We are currently using the free version of Trello for our team.  Will the update have any effect on our data - will we still be able to use the Boards?

Also, how can we find the price to upgrade to a Standard or Premium account?  Thanks

Hi @Sandra Reader Aside from new features and UI changes, non of the existing Trello features you know and love will be affected.

I want the ability to keep my Board menu on the LEFT where it currently is. After using the Beta, the new menu navigation panel is slow and unwieldy. It's not helpful when you have a large amount of Boards that you swap between regularly. The left hand Board menu is vastly easier to use.

I won't be using the Planner or Inbox so I should have the option to have the Board menu there instead.

How do I opt in to the new Beta? Don't seem to have a "Beta" button on my boards

Andrew Hillyer May 15, 2025

Will the ability to turn off the new quick add feature on the board tab be available with this update? Or at least the ability to organize the board tab? It takes up a good chunk of Real estate on the app.

What if we don't need new experiences? Nope! Gotta innovate. Gotta add new features no one asked for. Gotta keep up with our competition.

Stop changing things for the sake of change.

Why does my to-do list need an Inbox? And a planner? And more AI crap?

Howdy! Is there any plan to implement a native "assigned to" field in Trello? Would love this feature for a high-level view of who "holds the ball," for at-a-glance accountability.

With the boards list on the left side is so easy to navigate on boards. Don't change that please or make it as an option. I like the way that I can see all the boards there.

I have a question about the changes for Free Users Access.
An email I received said there would be some changes for Free users as far as how many boards you can have per workspace. There will be a limit to 10 boards per workspace. I have a few workspaces that have a few boards in each, but I do have one workspace with 25 boards. What is the best way to go about protecting that data in those boards? Is there any limit to how many workspaces a Free account can have? Would the best approach as a Free user be to make a few more workspaces and move some boards to those?  Thank you.

Will the new Trello be an option that you can turn on or off or on the 21st will it be a the new norm?

Am I understanding this right? Any time after 5/21 we may have the "new" Trello without warning?

I would like to be able to give people a heads up. I would also like to explore the new version beforehand but don't have access to Beta.

We are a medium-size team on Premium.

Thanks!

@Julie Coldeen , @Ana Ramirez  you can opt-in to Beta and enable new experience in advance with this purple button on the top of the app:

beta.png

If you don't see this button, the most likely reason is that your organization is using Trello Enterprise, and we are required to only provide default (not Beta) experience to such organizations.

If you are sure that this is not the case for you - please contact Trello Support and we will investigate any possible issue promptly.

@Andrew Hillyer  "Will the ability to turn off the new quick add feature on the board tab be available with this update? "

Andrew, I believe you are referring to the Trello Inbox, which appears on the left of the app screen.

You can hide and show Inbox (or Planner, or Board) panel using navigation in the bottom center of your screen:

@Joshua Word  "Will the new Trello be an option that you can turn on or off or on the 21st will it be a the new norm? "

Joshua, starting May 21, gradually (meaning that for some users that may be a later date in June or July) new experience will become default. So yes, the new norm.

Will it be possible to go back to the old card back? I much preferred seeing my entire card (or majority of the card) on one screen instead of having to scroll through it. The new model seems much less user friendly and it would be nice to be able to turn it off if we don't prefer it! The compact cards are harder to see our full work plate and envision a project in its entirety because the view is broken up.

@Victor Dronov ... so what is the point of this Beta if Atlassian is just gonna to swap it over as it is anyway? Many of us are telling you it doesn't work for us in Beta .... but you are just going to ignore that feeback and switch it over anyway ?

Jesse, you can assign board members to a card (task) here. You can also consider Jira for more sophisticated team collaboration workflows and project management!

@Victor Dronov Thanks — yeah, for accountability, I'm looking for a dedicated "this card is currently sitting with this single contributor" option (vs a more general "these people are all associated with this card").

@Michael Stephenson , @Giorgos Evagelou  I understand that using Trello for project management may require a lot of boards, and it may be easier and more familiar to switch between those with the left navigation bar. Trello is changing and turning towards personal productivity, and we continue to recommend Jira for team collaboration and project management type of use. We had to make some trade offs, including this one you are referencing, to make room for the capabilities to continuously capture new to-dos, organize individual plans and schedule and secure time for most important to-dos.

There are no changes in capabilities provided in the Free version of Trello (actually, more capabilities is provided now). Trello have already had a limit of 10 boards per workspace

Correct, but I Joined Trello before they had that 10 Boards per workspace limit. They added that later. I have a Workspace with 25 boards. I have now added a new workspace and moved 10 of those boards into that new workspace.

Hola @Victor Dronov .

No he probado nunca Jira.
