MY CARDS

Please keep the "my cards" section!! This is such a useful feature and widget to be productive while jumping between boards and projects. Please keep this!!! Quick search is not a comparable alternative.

I'm excited for the update, just hoping to keep the best of the current features!!

Please give the option to go back!! Yet AGAIN this did not take neurodivergent users into account. Was this tested with a variety of people? The UI is NOT friendly. Too many clicks, too many buttons, too much text in one place. The fully vertical interface is much better. Why do we need to click and click and click to find something that was OBVIOUSLY VISIBLE previously?

@Victor Dronov I would love to see the Boards list to open like Inbox and Planner instead of pop up window. Why do we need to make an extra click to change board? We love Trello because of the simplicity! And we don't want to move to Jira...

@Victor Dronov .. it doesn't matter if it's one person with 3 boards or a team with 50 boards. The new board switcher is poorly thought out, both from a UI and UX perspective. The placement and execution have made it harder to use.

I just want to point out one thing that sucks:

I'd always hoped card automation buttons would make their way to the front of the cards so I could invoke them without opening the cards.  Now, not only do they require clicking the card to open it, but they're hidden further behind a submenu.  So instead of 1 click for the automation, we have 3.

A suggestion: Implement a way for users to pick and choose which aspects of the card are "streamlined" (read: obfuscated) away from view.  Perhaps this could be done at an account preferences level and a board preferences level.

Hi, please keep our Board menu's on the LEFT where it currently is! This new menu is awful. Please LEAVE us with board menu on the left PLEASE!! Or at least give us the option to choose from new and old.

In the new UI your PowerUp "Card Repeater" doesn't work for new cards anymore!

In existing repeating cards I see the entry right of the due date, but for new cards I see no possibility to make it repeating.

Actually there is just no Power-Up section. Are Power-Ups omitted for the free version?

We completely share the concerns expressed here.

Some of the proposed Beta changes are promising but overall, they - and the loss of the left-hand navigation panel and loss of easy access to dozens of our custom Work Table views - are going to be very problematic for our organisation.

Please don’t do this, as the proposed Beta workflow is much more complex and not at all intuitive (degradation of this feature and not an improvement)!

If you are unable to action this feedback and the removal of the left hand panel does go ahead in Beta, please can you at least make it OPTIONAL so that users can switch it off and continue using the insofar set up.

If this is not possible, we may have no option but to consider leaving Trello (after 8+ years).

We're looking for an honest answer from the Trello team to a frequently asked and important question.

Is it so complicated to make the Trello interface configurable?

So that users can decide:

  • Whether or not to display the left panel of boards (and custom board views) that we used to have.
  • Whether or not to display the new floating menu (which is above the bottom scroll bar...)
  • Whether or not to keep the board activity panel visible and pinned.
  • Whether or not to keep the automation buttons on the back of the card visible and pinned, as we used to have (so we don't have to scroll down and click to see them). Is there a shortcut key?
  • What shortcuts are visible below the card name on the back of the same one, which are now repeated in the +Add menu (which, by the way, has two shortcut keys for adding members: "a" and "m") instead of a View or Edit menu (which also includes the sort option), as is already possible with custom fields (at least in a basic way).
  • The scale of the desktop app interface.

And much more...

Thanks

Hi @ACE , @Michael Stephenson@Olufunke Femi-Ojo

Are you hearing us about the board switcher ?

We do hear you, and I'll try to give some answers.

Is it so complicated to make the Trello interface configurable?

Yes, it is complicated. Trello interface will not be configurable to the degree you are proposing in the observable future.

If this is not possible, we may have no option but to consider leaving Trello (after 8+ years)

It is heart breaking for many people on our team, myself included. But your choice is respected. We are changing Trello to become an entirely different product, and hopefully one day you can enjoy it in this new - individual productivity and to-do management - capacity. Most of the changes mentioned here as unwelcome are helpful in context of working with a large team across multiple boards, but they are needed to implement a flow to capture new to-dos, organize them and protect individual's time to get it done.

I really recommend you to give Jira a try for team collaboration and project management use cases, especially if you never tried it in the last year or two. It is much better and friendlier product that you may remember from the past experiences.

All that said, the new board switcher navigation is by no means perfect and we are taking notes from all the feedback shared here to evolve this to a more streamlined experience.

Hi My Trello has updated and I have been checking out the new Beta version, I have since turned it off using the Beta button but my colleague doesn't have the same Beta button, can you advise if there is any way to switch her back to the original view?

@Victor Dronov  What we're hearing is this: because you are making changes no one asked for and everyone is pushing back on, you're saying that instead of reverting these updates, you want us all to move to a different product? Explain to us how that's user- and client-centered?

But also to go back to @ACE 's question and your reply, you've given us the Beta button to switch one way.... so you can't configure that same button to switch back and forth for everyone? Even if you can't make it configurable point by point, if you can make this button to do one thing, have it do the opposite and keep it there!

> Is it so complicated to make the Trello interface configurable?

Yes, it is complicated. Trello interface will not be configurable to the degree you are proposing in the observable future.

I’d really like to use Trello’s new back-card interface, with the updated layout where comments appear on the right side, etc. I was able to use it just for a few hours, but then everything reverted to the old version.

What can I do to get the new card design back?

@Victor Dronov
"but they are needed to implement a flow to capture new to-dos, organize them and protect individual's time to get it done."
... I mean .. that isn't ojectively true. It is simply that the team decided that's where they wanted to put the new switcher and make it look fancier and less functional. The Planner and Inbox would still work perfectly fine if the board list remained on the left where everyone seems to want to keep it.

No-one has an issue with the Planner or Inbox, just the Switcher. So the team got 2/3 thirds of it right. We are simply letting you know the last third needs a rethink.

"I really recommend you to give Jira a try for team collaboration and project management use cases, especially if you never tried it in the last year or two. "
Yes, let's just move the entire organistion over to an entirely new system overnight. We have processes in place and a functional system built around Trello. We are simply asking you to NOT do one thing ... move the Switcher .... besides .. the new Switcher experience is just as bad if you are one person or 50.

Two issues with the new design:
- why cards view is so small? I cannot see most of the content, I need to scroll and my cards are usualy very short, so it seems like a terrible change.
- why is Trello so slow now?? I can't compare with the memory usage from the past, but it seems like now it's just eating it like crazy... Trello was never freezing for me before and now it is lagging a lot...

Oof. Not a fan of the new look.

1. Is there a way to turn off that floating bar at the bottom?

2. Is there a way to restore the vertical view where I could easily scroll and see everything vs the new side by side view with comments on the right?

Hello again @Victor Dronov . Thanks for your kind words.

· The Trello interface won't be configurable at the level you're proposing in the near future.
I was expecting that.

· Yes, it's complicated.
You weren't very argumentative in this reply (sad face)

As I've mentioned on this forum before, I understand Atlassian's decision to differentiate Trello and Jira as much as possible. What I don't understand is the need to consciously make Trello worse to achieve this. This, in my opinion, is a dirty trick by Atlassian on all those users who have dedicated many hours to Trello and now find that they're turning it into something else, unnecessarily. Unnecessarily, because they could have listened to the community that has been sending suggestions and reports for years. Unnecessarily, because it was easier to implement the new features without removing the existing ones or making them more difficult. Unnecessarily, because all those people are feeling cheated—yes, cheated.

I imagine you've weighed the collateral damage and anticipated some losses from your current paying customers, dissatisfied with Trello's direction and future. You're hoping they'll docilely migrate to another of your products. I'm no fortune teller, but while some will likely do so, many won't. Not because that other program is bad—I don't know—but because they feel ripped off.

That's not how things are done.

  1. Please make sure that we can keep the old view with the board menu and the views on the left. The new design is so complicated and takes up a lot of screen space.
  2. Innovations are always welcome, but that's in the wrong place. It would be much better to revise the text editor and revise the existing views for the table view and the whole chart so that they can be used better. Innovations can come when all this is perfect.

So here's what I'm getting from the new UI.

1) By making Boards less accessible and obscuring them within tiny menus, Trello is communicating that it wants us to stay on one board at a time. That the new direction is that you should only use a single board? The "distance" between boards widens with every update after all.

I know I for one, will have to hack together a system via bookmarks and links to recreate the base functionality of Trello as a multi-board experience. I've been trying to get (near-tech-illiterate) co-workers on to Trello for years. Every update has made this harder and harder, as the UI obfuscates and makes them unaware of what boards they have access to.

2) The back of card experience is a downgrade, more floaty, less focused. But at the very least we can hide the comments (which we don't use anyways) so that the content is front and center. I'm sure that works for some teams, where comments are part of their core workflow, not sure why its pushed on the rest of us, but I guess between the two workflows, one will have to be the default.. Still an overall downgrade though.

3) Labels are now disconnected from the title of a card? It feels like the priority is making inputting data front and center, as opposed to reading/presenting data. Not too happy with this either. As Trello primarily works because it presents information in an organized way, on multiple levels. Having data entry stuff pop in and disrupting that feels weird on a design level. Or alternatively, this was designed for a workflow that does not highly prioritize nor use labels. I think the design works very well if you use labels very sparingly, less so if they are a major component of the workflow.

Button-bar and labels just need to be switched in my opinion. That way you delineate between card header, functions, and card details. Alternatively, if you actually want to lean in to functions, they should be easily accessible even when you scroll downwards, so possibly part of the frame, a section to the right (current functionality), or a floating bar somewhere that possibly expands?

4) Not super happy that automations are again hidden away. Again. Near-tech-illiterate coworkers. If its not on the page, it doesn't exist. All those nifty buttons that serve as the glue for our workflow experience? Completely gone from their perspective. Honestly, if you want this kind of clean outlook, you should be leaning in to UI that can be expanded/collapsed. And then just have a Hide All or something. I don't know why you'd prioritize looks over functionality, when Trello is primarily a productivity tool... but that would be the direction.

----

Anyways. Horrible as usual. Just when I was starting to turn around on Trello once again adding functionality being a good thing. Turns out it was just the lead in to Trello re-organizing/removing/hiding functionality all over again. Doubly annoying because while I can find workarounds for myself, onboarding others in to the system just keeps getting harder and harder, because Trello keeps getting harder for non-power-users to use effectively. Outside of a very narrow and particular workflow, of using it as a daily planner, which I would recommend my friends use an actual daily planner than using Trello for? Jira is completely off the table. Vanilla Trello is already at the tippy-top of what they can barely manage, provided I customize their experience heavily. And now the new update streamlines the experience (to a workflow that they are not using) so that I can't even customize it for them anywhere near as effectively.

@Vongsawat - thank you for this elaborate response to the new changes. While focus on individual work in future Trello dominates team scenarios (and understandably causing the frustration you are sharing), this one is not a goal really:

the new direction is that you should only use a single board?

We are taking a lot of notes from feedback shared in Community (and 10x more of that shared through in-app feedback forms) to improve the new Board Switcher, and make it easier to switch between boards. Even if it's not a left navigation bar open at all times.

I know this tip is not a universal fit for everyone, but I'll share anyways: hit `b` keyboard shortcut, start typing first letter of a board name, hit `enter`.
