I used to be able to add "comments" to my cards but that has all of a sudden changed. I can now only view a comment.

Sorry to hear you've run into this trouble! Are you a member of the board in question? Has this happened with all of your boards or just one?
If you're the admin of the board, make sure that the comments aren't turned off in the board settings. You can check this article and just reverse the instructions on turning the comments back on if they're off now: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/disabling-comments-on-cards/
