How to create and inserts a predefined template in the Description field

How can I create an automation that inserts a predefined template into the Description field when the Create button is clicked?

Automation can help you set a description after a work item is created, but it cannot inject content into the create work item screen.

You'll need a marketplace app if you want to do that. Here's a marketplace search to get you started. You can also check out this support article for a bit more background.

We built our own template feature using JSM Assets where the screen has an Assets field where the agent can select a template defined in the Assets schema/object type. Clearly this will only function if you are using a JSM service project but it is an option.

To create a default description that appears when clicking on "Create," you can use templating.app. In addition to many templates, we also offer description templates.

if you have company-managed project, default value for the Description field isn't supported, but you can use a custom field as it is described here: Set Default Description in Jira Cloud Company-Managed Projects.
