Hi Adeel! For me, there are two features of Confluence that are most suitable for software development documentation:

First, Confluence provides pre-built templates specifically designed for software development documentation. These templates offer a structured format for various types of documentation, including requirements, design specifications, user guides, and more.

Second, Confluence offers a wide range of macros and plugins that enhance its functionality. These macros and plugins allow users to embed code snippets, diagrams, charts, tables, and other visual elements directly into their documentation, if needed.

As a technical Writer, we find out

  • what info is needed
  • who needs it
  • how do they need to get it
  • where the info is that they will need

and then we develop the resource to fill that need.

Confluence is a platform for managing and presenting information

  • It has tools to help/support us in our efforts.
  • It has strengths and weaknesses, as all platforms do.

As a technical writer, you probably recognize all these things. Sometimes it helps to see it again, though.

Where are you in your journey?

What do you need to accomplish, and what tools do you have available?
