Automation: How to access new parent field in #changelog

Atlassian hast started do change the Parent Link and Epic Link field in our forms to the new Parent field:

Screenshot_2023-11-29_at_16_36_56.png

I tried to update some of our automation rules that make heavy use of the following changelog smartvalues:

{{#changelog.epic link}}{{fromString}}{{/}}

{{#changelog.epic link}}{{toString}}{{/}}

{{#changelog.parent link}}{{fromString}}{{/}}

{{#changelog.parent link}}{{toString}}{{/}}

I changed them to

{{#changelog.parent}}{{fromString}}{{/}}

{{#changelog.parent}}{{toString}}{{/}}

But they seem to always be empty. The old names (still) seem to work.

Is the parent field called something different as a smart value, or haven't they just implemented the change yet?

Hi @flaimo

It seems those changes are still in-progress of rolling out, as described in this response from an Atlassian employee to a similar question today:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/When-will-the-quot-Epic-Link-quot-and-quot-Parent-Link-quot/qaq-p/2546760#M303059

And from my experimentation...the behaviors of backward compatibility versus replacement seem different than originally described for the sunset of those epic fields.  For example, I just tested with the REST API function to check for supported automation fields and "Epic Link" was empty for me and parent was not.

I recommend watching for updates in the community articles and here to note changes:

Kind regards,
Bill
