Can I remove access/ change permissions for a single company managed project if it shares schemes?

Benjamin McClure February 7, 2023

There is a single project I want to update the browsing permission for/ want to remove access for certain people. This project is company managed though, and shares schemes with 14 other projects. Is there a way I can edit this without messing with the settings for the other projects?

Hi @Benjamin McClure,

If your permissions are set up following best practices, that should not be an issue. That means: if your permission scheme grants the browse project permission to a project role, then there is nothing to worry about. In that case, all you would need to do, is remove the people you are referring to from that role in your project (that is something you would do in project settings > people).

Unfortunately, in many cases permission schemes use Groups or - even worse - Application Access (Any logged in user) to assign the Browse Project permission. If that is the case you would have some more work on your hands. Essentially, you would have to create a new permission scheme then for your project and ideally set it up as described in my first paragraph: using project roles. When you're done, associate that new permission scheme with your project, assign the appropriate users to the right roles and leave the other projects untouched.

To learn more about configuring permission schemes, see this support article.

Hope this helps!
