Can I use JSON import function to import Epics, Tasks and Subtasks into Next Gen Project?

Sujaira July 31, 2020

Hello,

The current CSV import function is not working so good when it comes to Next Gen Projects.

Is there a way to import issues using JSON import or REST API and how to do it.

Very often we will need to import epics, tasks and subtasks with this structure

Epic A

        Task A.1 (Subtask A.1.1, Subtask A.1.2)

        Task A.2 (Subtasks A.2.1, Subtasks A.2.2)

Epic B

         Task B.1 (Subtask B.1.1, Subtask B.1.2, Subtasks B.1.3)

Hello @Sujaira,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

It's possible to import JSON files in Jira, but I'm afraid to say that it's not available to do that using API.

When going to Cog icon > System > External system import there is an option to import using JSON.

For more information, please check the documentation below:

Also, just to let you know that there is a known bug when importing issues to next-gen projects.

With that said, even adding that the issue type is Epic, the issue will be imported as a Story.

If you have any other questions regarding this matter, please let us know.

Regards,
Angélica
