Can Next-Gen Projects have Release Versions?

Josh Carter

I recently created a next-gen scrum project to explore the differences compared to Classic. While I like several of the changes, one thing I cannot seem to find is an option to create a Release. Are Releases available with these new templates?

Hi @Josh Carter

Unfortunately, releases are not available for Next-Gen projects yet.

These new Project Templates are pretty easy to setup and run. So I really like that. But there are some obvious issues with them still:

1) You've gotta have Releases! And Releases should show up on the Roadmap as well.

2) Status Transition Screens. I like the Rules, but there is no user input like changing the assignee when a story goes into testing or adding it to a release or build when it's done.

3) The catch all right sidebar when viewing a ticket is a giant mess. Seems like ZERO thought went into designing that UX. The tabs concept in classic is so useful. We have several departments tracking tickets and each dept cares about certain things (custom fields). So being able to organize the plethora of fields in a ticket is essential.

4) Convert a Project to Next-Gen. It's insane that I would have to create a new project, get it dialed in, and then bulk move everything over. Make a way to convert a project. Ain't nobody got time to create, setup and move a project.

@Josh Carter, be sure to submit that via the "feedback" link in your instance. Atlassian is keen on hearing your feedback on Next-gen.

We enabled Next-Gen releases in our app Swanly release timeline for Jira Cloud.
You can create release for Next-Gen project in application. We're currently working on showing Fix version field in Next-Gen issues.

There is much more features available eg. Visualisation of releases on Timeline, Adding custom stages to releases, cross-project releases…
