Cannot see Roadmap, Backlog or Board

Tasha Raynard March 23, 2022

I created a new board (cloning the settings of another board that works as expected) and the new board does not have Roadmap, Backlog or Board displayed on the sidebar menu. I checked the features under Project Settings and the toggle is greyed out but looks to be enabled. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello @Tasha Raynard

Go to your Board Settings (rather than Project Settings > Features) and see if Backlog and Roadmap are enabled there.

I copied a board where these were enabled, and in my case I saw the options in the navigation pane of the new board. When I looked at Project Settings > Features I also saw that the settings appeared enabled but grayed-out. when I hovered over the setting I saw a hint help message that said the settings had to be managed under Board Settings.

Thank you @Trudy Claspill but part of my problem is "Board" is also missing. So I can't get to board settings :(

@tashIn your screen shot, click on the left side bar option that says "Board". It's subtle, but there's a drop down hiding there. There should be an option at the bottom of the dropdown that says "+ Create Board". Click on that to create a board.

Projects don't automatically have boards when you create them. After you create the project you then need to create the first board to see the Board settings. From there you can get to the settings for Backlog and Roadmap.

@Melanie Lam Carnevale You glorious GENIUS!! Thank you so much. I didn't realize i had to also create the board separately after i created the project.

Ah, so you created a new project sharing the settings of an existing project. That is entirely different than "cloning a board".

Hi @Tasha Raynard

There are various reasons a board might be missing...

  • How did you create this Project? If it was using shared configuration - then the board isn't added; boards are only provided automatically if it's created new from a template.
  • The board's filter has been changed, hiding it from your view, or changed to point to another project
  • The board has been deleted

In Company-managed Projects, boards are not intrinsically linked to projects, and can be removed.

You can however add a new board...

  1. From your left-hand menu, select "Board v"
  2. At the bottom of the drop-down list, choose "+ Create board"
  3. Choose a board type (Kanban/Scrum), then press Next
  4. Select Board from an existing project, then press Next
  5. Give the board a name, link it to your Project - and set its location to your Project also
  6. Press Create board

Let us know if this helps resolve your issue!
