Cannot select from drop down for "Convert to Sub-task"

In Jira Software Cloud, I am trying to convert a Jira Task to a Sub-Task using the "Convert to Sub-Task" function in the menu.

When I search for the parent issue, a story, I see it in a drop down list but I cannot select it by clicking on it or anything else.

Anyone got any idea why not??

Neither task for story have any other links or sub-tasks...

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards,

Dan

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? It will say at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left.

And are you working with a Business, Software, or Service Management project? It will say at the top of the navigation pane below the project name.

You said you are trying to convert a Task, and that you can search for its "parent issue" which is a Story. How is the parent/child relationship between these two issues established? Can you show us a screen image of each issue?

Typically a story can have as children issues that are categories in the Sub-task Issue Type. If your Task is actually categorized in the Sub-task Issue Types, then you can't convert it to the thing it already is.
