Change <Custom field> used for estimation statistic

I cannot change the estimation statistic for my project.

I want to use Story Points but it doesn't seem to be available to me for my tasks and bugs. So I am trying to use the field Story point estimate instead. So now I filled out this field for all of my issues.

However when I try to change the estimation settings for my project to read this field to measure sprint effort, I can't see the field. I have looked in the help and it just tells me that I can use <custom field> but I don't know how to change / edit this custom field (I would like to use the story point estimate).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Story Point Estimation method for Bug fixing & task is not correct.

Bug & Task are mainly related to Technical Works. So, you need to use Hours estimation.

Story Point is to estimate the complexity of the Activity. Which can be used for Story & EPIC.

It is not above the right or wrong. We have option to estimate issues using any method.

JIRA System is flexible enough to configure however we need.

Basically STORY POINT is a Custom Filed and configure to use only for Story & EPIC Issue types.

You can change the setup to allow to any issue type.

Go to Custom Fields & Search for Story Point. (Using JIRA Version 8.5)

(Administration --> Issues --> Custom Fields)

Right most side, you can find Gear Icon(Actions).

Choose Configure option.

And then Edit Configuration for Applicable contexts for scheme.

And select the issue types which you want to use.

And configure screens for Bug & Task to reflect the Story Point.

Your purpose is solved.
