We've been looking at the "Component lead" function in Jira Cloud, but I cannot, for the life of me, find the documentation that tells what its purpose is.
I can't even filter on it with advanced filters.
The question is; what does the component lead field do?
It is mostly just for humans to look up who is the best bet to talk to about a component.
The main (only!) thing it does in Jira is kick in when you configure "automatic assignee". If you set the rules so that "assign to component lead" is first, it will read the component list and set the lead as the assignee from the first component it finds a lead for.
Components can be used to break down your projects into smaller modules. For instance - API, Backend, UI etc. You can treat them like sub projects.
Component lead as the name suggest is responsible for that module. Jira can auto assign issues to Component lead if an issue is created with that component.
You can also use them like categories and don't have to use the lead.

You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
And a bit of documentation. Not much but pretty straightforward I think.
