Configure Scrum Board Columns

Hi There,

Here're some questions related to the scrum board columns:

1) Is it the logic that if issues are in status mapped to the DONE column, they will not display in the backlog?

2) Once I don't map any status to the DONE column, I find there are only issues in the Open status display in my backlog. Why would that happen? (I do map some other status to the IN PROGRESS column.)Scrum Board Columns.png

Thanks,

Olive

Hi Olive,

typically, the backlog displays issues that are not in a sprint. If an issue is Done, it doesn't need to be in any future sprints anymore (because there is no action that needs to be taken).

You need to have at least one status mapped to the most-right (but not the Done) column of the board, otherwise you won't see any issues in the backlog.

You can find additional information on how the Scrum backlog works here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/use-your-scrum-backlog/

Just to clarify - "the most-right (but not the Done) column" - I think Lisa is saying "Jira always treats the most-right column as 'done', no matter what it is named".

(And anything not in the most-right column is not done, so it goes into the backlog or sprint as something that needs doing)

Thanks for clarifying that, Nic!

Thanks, @Lisa Grau @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-! That's really helpful.

Just one more thing to clarify, will it impact those sprints in progress if I manage the columns?

For example, if I suddenly move the status CLOSED to "done" column, will those issues in CLOSED status disappear from the in-progress-sprint?

Yes, they will, because they're now "done".  I mean, they'll stay on the board, in that column, but asking "show me stuff that is not done in the sprint" won't report on them any more.
