Copying / matching a string into a version picker field

Scenario:

We are utilizing ServiceRocket's Jira Cloud & Salesforce Connector to keep support tickets in SFDC synchronized with their Jira issues in Jira.

Our last stumbling block is allowing the agents in SFDC to choose the Version of our software a customer is running, and mirror that in the 'Found in Version' field in Jira.

The ServiceRocket connector can't pull a string value into a version picker field, even if the contents match.

In SFDC the field is a string field, and we are pulling it into a Jira field called SFDC Found in Version.

We are looking for a way to take that value and change Found in Version to match it.
I'm struggling to find an Automation recipe that works, as whenever I select Found in Version, the only other items I can match against it are other Version Pickers.

Has anybody solved a similar issue? ScriptRunner may be the way to go, but I have zero experience with it so don't know where to start - or even if it would allow us to manipulate the Found in Version field in this way.
