Creating One Sprint Servicing Multiple Projects

therjmb January 11, 2023

We have a small dev team that works on tasks from multiple projects in each sprint - for example, during a sprint they will work on tasks from:

  • Project A
  • Project B
  • Bugs List
  • Refactoring Tasks

The only way I can do this at the moment is to have ALL of our tasks on one board so that I can put them into the same sprint.

I can't find anything that definitively says this is possible - can anyone help?

We use JIRA Cloud Team Managed Projects.

Hi @therjmb,

You are basically right that you need to have all your tasks in one board if you want to put them in a single sprint. This is simply because a sprint is a feature of a scrum board (company managed) or a specific feature that you can enable in the feature set of a team managed project.

You do not need to put all your tasks in a single project, but in order to work across multiple projects with a single board, you should really use company managed projects. Team managed projects are designed to be used in isolation and are not a good fit for your use case.

For more information on setting up a board across multiple company-managed projects, see the following support articles:

Hope this helps!

It all makes sense now - thanks!  Now to transfer 300+ existing tasks to Company Managed boards....
