Delete empty sprints from a board

Mayank Agarwal September 13, 2023

I was trying to create sprints through a script but I mistakenly created 100s of sprints in a single board. Now I can't find a way to delete those. Tried using the rest APIs but it's not working. If anyone knows how to get it done, please help.

Thanks

Hi @Mayank Agarwal

Have you used that board with the team yet?

If not, I recommend creating a new board and deleting the one with the hundreds of sprints.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hey Bill,
Thank you for the suggestion but the board is being used by one of our team. So, I won't be able to delete the board. Please do let me know if you have any another solution.

Regards,
Mayank

My next suggestion would be to carefully use an automation rule to delete them, about 100 at a time, or so, by calling the REST API function:

https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/software/rest/api-group-sprint/#api-rest-agile-1-0-sprint-sprintid-delete

If they match a naming pattern, you could build that into the rule to find/delete them.

Remember that this is not a reversible action, so ensure you have the correct ones.
