Does an issue transitioned by automation rule fire post-functions

I have an automation rule that fires on sub-task activity. One of the actions is to transition the parent task.

If a path exists to the target status, will it perform the transition available and fire the post-functions?
It's not clear from to docs whether not its the case.

This raises a further question - if there is more than one transition available, which will be used.

Yes it will fire the post function.  As for selecting which transition to use, see this question:
