Editing the Project Name and Key

Hello, 

I am asked to edit multiple project names and keys. All these projects are company managed. 

There is a warning states " Changing the project key will start a background re-index of your project, and may break some external integrations." 

What external integrations can be broken? 

Can we run re-index during the work hours? Or it should wait until the after hours?

If it goes ok, all the existing ticket's key will be updated or not?

The Re-Index happens in the background but could result in some minor performance issues. Nonetheless, I would do it in quieter times.

The main concern is any existing Weblinks, for instance in Emails from Jira. If you do not have other integrations (Code Pipelines and such) other than that, there shouldn't be any issues. Linking within Jira is repaired by the reindex.

@Rebekka Heilmann _viadee_ , we do have integrations for coding and other purposes. What happens if it breaks? What is the fix? Thank you.

It depends on the integrations. Some are linked to a project itself, some are linked by mentioning the project key. Some will be more integrated than others. If they are integrated per API than that might be affected as well.

So you would have to find that out for your specific integrations. Maybe there already is some content here in the community or you can contact the respective support teams.
