Help Linking Confluence Page to Jira Ticket/Issue Type

Craig Lashley

Hello All,

My goal is to display a Confluence link/page on a Jira ticket for a specific issue type every time a ticket is created.

For example, there are three issue types with their own procedures. When a person sits down to work a ticket, I'd like there to always be a link pointing to the correct procedure. I would like that to just be displayed once the ticket is created. I want this to be displayed only from the assignee's perspective and not the perspective of the reporter.

Steps I have taken:

1. Inside Confluence Space Settings > Integrations, I added a link to configure Confluence between Jira

2. I created a ticket, expanded Link Issue drop down and selected Link Confluence page

3. Once the field for adding the Link to the Confluence page displayed, I was able to select the page from the drop down menu (I believe this shows the Confluence/Jira configuration is set up correctly)

4. I created a new ticket of the same Issue type and the link is not there, it would have to be done manually again

Screenshot:

The red shows the steps I took. Where it says Confluence pages, wrapped in the bottom red box, I would like that to always display anytime a ticket is created, so the issue type and the procedure (Confluence page) always match.

Any help is appreciated and feel free to ask questions for better clarification. Thanks.

Hi @Craig Lashley ,

I have a suggestion: you could create a custom field (URL type) to include a link to the instructions , and then set the default value to the URL that you need. You could set a context for the custom field where the default value is set by issue type, and you could have different default values per issue type.

@Carlos Garcia Navarro thank you for your response.

Will I need to make multiple custom fields, one per issue type, and set the default value for each one?

Or, do I make one custom field, associate it will all issue types, and then somehow change the default value for each issue type?

Thank you.

Hi @Craig Lashley ,

You can use the same custom field and add a dedicated context for each issue type. E.g.:Screen Shot 2021-02-13 at 4.35.24 PM.png

Hey @Craig Lashley

Another way to view your Confluence page in your Jira project is to use an addon like C4J that extends the basic functionality, and presents Confluence content directly in a Jira issue and seamlessly integrate Confluence into Jira. Hi @Craig Lashley if you are still interested, you can check this app. It seems like it can do exactly what you want. https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1224763/coji-confluence-pages-for-jira?hosting=cloud&tab=overview
