How can I disable the Jira Slack snippet inside issue page

Ratko September 14, 2018

We have some clients defined as our JIRA users. And we do not want client see our Slack discussion related to specific project (client project).

So, we want developers to see Slack widget on issue, but disable for specific users.

Any thoughts?

Hello Ratko,

Are these JIRA(Client) users, also users on the same Slack account used by the developers? Because the Slack widget will be locked by default per users, upon logging in to same Slack Account that's when the Slack messages will become visible.

Subsequently, you might want to use Issue-level Security to only make issues visible to certain group of people within a Project if you are not using Project role basis to limit Browse access to your Projects on JIRA.

Since messages are added to specific issues from Slack, if an issue-level security is used on your Project, you can specify a Project Role that contains the developers and/or specific users who you want to actually view that particular issue, where they can communicate freely from both Slack and JIRA on specific JIRA Issues.

Hope the above helps!

Cheers,

Prince

Hi,
we have all our developers in separate JIRA group, and all developers have own slack account on company slack workspace.
So, any developer or admin can create slack channel from issue, and that is fine. Channel is created/owned by dedicated Slack admin user.

From other hand - clients can see only JIRA issues which belong to their project, but also can see Slack widget inside issue is linked to specific channel if that channel is created from within JIRA issue. And in that case client also can see Slack widget even they are not Slack users, and that is not good and we don't want that !

Other JIRA addons can define groups allowed to see widgets (like Tempo) but I can't see anything related to Slack security!

Hi Ratko,

If a Jira-Slack Integration has been configured on a Project, the Slack widget will be available, however it will be locked and will require login for the messages to display if those users are on the same Slack workspace.

However, for the slack widget to be completely unavailable / hidden from view, is not a feature that is available yet as the Jira Cloud-Slack Integration doesn't have the feature to hide the widget based on groups or project roles. There's a feature request on Hide Slack Widget on issue view based on Group or Project Role we suggest you vote and watch the issue to get notified when it's updated.

Cheers,

Prince
