How to create a defect in specific project by sending an email in a specific format

Jyothi Ravipati August 13, 2021

Hi,

If an email sent to Jira@abc.com with SUBJECT LINE say <PROJECTNAME> should create a defect in JIRA under that project.

Alternately, having an email id like <projectname>-Jira@abc.com that creates a defect ticket under that <projectname>

Could anyone help me with that?

Email creation of issues has a one-to-one relationship with projects. You would have to create your own email handler to do what you're wanting to do. As an alternative you could consider using something like outlook rules where all emails would go to one address and the rules would interrogate the subject or body and forward it to another email address which would be two specific projects in Jira.

There are a couple of apps in the marketplace that might save you having to write your own handler.

Hi @Jack Brickey

Could you please direct me the steps in Jira, how to create email handler and how that can be created as a defect in Jira Project.
