Our basic hierarchy of issues is Contract --> HLR.
The contract issue is created under a project but HLR doesn't hold the project name so the only way to know to which project it is related to is by viewing the parent (contract) key.
I would like the HLR issue to display a read only field with the project name that its parent is related to.
Any easy way for beginners?
Hi @Yaniv L,
Maybe I am missing something here, but the name (or key) of your parent project is right there, in the Parent link field on your screenshot.
In your example, CR-65 is the issuekey of the parent issue. An issue key always consists of the key of the project the issue is stored in (CR, which I believe is what you want to know) and a counter to uniquely identify the issue (65).
Wouldn't that be enough information?
@Walter Buggenhout I missed to mention that this 'CR' that appears in the key are only the 2-3 letter from the full project name.
Example: the key can be LI-24 where the project name is Lion

Hi @Yaniv L,
To be perfectly honest with you, I would not bother to try and solve this at all. In the case you describe, there's only 2 projects involved in your setup and when your users have been engaged in the process one or two times, they will be perfectly aware of where your issues are. On top of that:
Having said that, automation for Jira supports using smart values. By setting up a custom field (e.g. project name), you can use the smart value {{project.name}} to add the data into that field each time an issue gets created.
See this support article for more information on project related smart values.
