How to split a project?

Christian Neubauer April 20, 2020

Hi,

We started with Jira in a small team and had a project that, as well as the team, has continued to grow. Now I want to split the project up. This means that about half of the Jira Issues and Confluence pages should be moved to another new project.

Are there any ideas how to do that? I thought about just copying the project and deleting everything I don't need at the second project. However it seems that even a simple copy function isn't there.

Edit: We use Jira Cloud.

Hi Christian,

You can create a new project based on the existing project.

Then you can do a bulk move of some of the issues from the old project to the new one, assuming you have a way to query and separate the issues.

Hi,

thanks. The bulk move option was very hard to find within a next gen project.

Moreover the question if this will also work with connected confluence pages and do links to the pages will work again after die moving progress?

I can't answer the Confluence pages question. But I assume it would. I would test just one of the issues to confirm one way or another.

The bulk change function is done from the filter, not the board.
