I am really struggling to understand how to effectively use Roadmaps in JIRA software. There seems to be a limitation in that roadmaps can only be used for a single project. This does not work well with my organization as our scrum teams typically run multiple projects at the same time. The view we have are items that come in from our service desk along with work items from various projects.
When we do our Sprint Planning, part of the capacity planning incorporates that BAU work, but also any enhancements that may need to be done within the same sprint which targeted project work is to happen, and that project work may encompass multiple projects.
It is not very effective to have to set up separate scrum boards for each of these initiatives when it is the same scrum team doing that work as you cannot clearly see the dependencies across the different boards to the impact of the overall team.
Does anyone have a similar problem and how have you tried to overcome this issue with JIRA?
Hi @Eric Barnes
If you consider using plugin you may try a resource planning plugin ActivityTimeline.
In ActivityTimeline you can work with projects, multiple teams, tasks, and individuals in one place and see a clear picture of the workflow.
ActivityTimeline is presented as timeline dashboard with Workload panel where you can calculate the actual workload, availability, track users worklog, taking into account the weekends, holidays or day-off.
If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask me. We can provide a demo session for you if needed.

Hi Eric,
You are correct that Roadmaps can only be used with one project. However, with a Premium Subscription for Jira you get the Advanced Roadmaps tool which can span multiple projects in a single roadmap.

Hi @Eric Barnes, on behalf of the Planyway team, I'd like to suggest you try Planyway. You can connect issues from multiple projects (how-to) to see them on one timeline or calendar.
I'll be here in case you have any questions.
