Incoming mail handler - Jira Software

Recently, Jira has started to misbehave in a particularly irritating way when it comes to the inbound mail and associated ticket creation side of things.t has decided that on one of the several incoming mail activities that are identical barring the recipient email address (which itself is an alias of the main mailbox, just like all the other incoming mail activities), to start ignoring certain individuals. 

In addition, it keeps giving nonsense errors during testing, such as:
"You haven't provided Default Reporter and Create Users is off. Messages sent by unknown users will be silently ignored."

The default reporter *is* set, and is the same as all the others, which work fine. I've even set this one to a different default reporter, but same error message is shown. I cannot set it to Create Users, because I don't want to be creating new users (and it's not set to do that on any of the others, either). Even if I did, the one person it has started to ignore, is already a user, so that makes no sense.

Eventually, it said that a test was successful - but still had the message about not having a default user set - and then helpfully told me it had seen one message in the appropriate place. And had also ignored one message in the appropriate place - but no explanation as to why it ignored anything!

Can anyone help before my brain completely gives up and atrophies in disgust?

Just to rule one obvious thing out - could you have two mail handlers looking at the same inbox?  This would exhibit the behaviour you are seeing.

No - that is EXACTLY what I assumed I'd done as well at first, but then I realised it was only one person it was ignoring. (But thank you - it's nice to know I WAS checking the right stuff! :))

I had to ask, but it sounds like you're following the same investigation path I would.

Next is to look at the user(s) being ignored - I'd pick on one of them and look at all the differences between them and a user that is not.  Not stuff like groups and activity, but the format of their email address (including if they have unusual characters in them), whether they have application access, are they on an aliased email, have they been disabled, etc

Format exactly the same as everyone else, never been disabled, and exactly the same access as everyone else.  Daft eh?

Even more daft though, is that it *appears* to having been flagging his email address as "Bulk".  It's not ideal, but I have allowed it to work with Bulk emails and now it's behaving as it ought to.

I may leave it like this for the time being and just hope not to need to change it again! 

Thank you for trying to help.  I seem to just have a talent for having the oddest things happen around me. Verified disaster magnet ;)

I'm sorry I couldn't help much.  I'd like to think I at least gave you reassurance you were not crazy and were looking in the right place!
