Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×I would like to try a proof of concept using Jira Checklist custom issue type. Currently this isn't visible in my custom fields. This article, https://okapya.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHKDOC/pages/270368840/Adding+a+Checklist+Field+to+JIRA, indicates there's an add-on that needs to be installed to see the 'Checklist' Custom Field. I am not able to find any documentation how to install this add-on. Can you help? thanks
Thank you @Walter Buggenhout . @Sam Nadarajan I'm still confused on your point here:
Once the application is installed, go to your project that you want to use the checklists on and go to Project Settings > Issue Checklist (I'm using the pro version here):
Are you saying that you installed the app below from the Marketplace for this checklist functionality? I was looking for something native to Jira.
Hi Kerri,
I'm a developer from the Checklist for Jira add-on on Server. As you might have already understood now, the links you provided are for Jira Server / Data Center and does not apply to your version of Jira (Cloud).
HeroCoders currently offer two Cloud checklist apps (Checklist for Jira & Issue Checklist for Jira). I suggest you to try Issue Checklist and see if it fits your needs, it even has a free version so you can get used to the App at your own pace. Take a look at the Quick Start Guide.
Kind regards

Hello @Kerri Shirey ,
We use this app, and unfortunately the cloud documentation is outdated.
This app no longer uses a custom field type as you referenced in the earlier comments. Instead, a new checklist section appears on your issue details view. From there, you are able to manage the checklist items.
Once the application is installed, go to your project that you want to use the checklists on and go to Project Settings > Issue Checklist (I'm using the pro version here):
Once enabled, a new checklist section will appear on your issue details. If it doesn't appear at first, click the "Checkbox" icon right underneath the summary of your issue. Once the section appears, you can add your checklist items here, manage templates, update the status of each checklist item, etc:
Hope this helps

Hi @Kerri Shirey,
You need admin permissions on your site in order to install apps. If you do, navigate to Apps > Explore more apps. In the list, search for the app you want to install and click on the tile representing it.
You should end up on a Marketplace page, where you will see a Try it Free button near the top right corner.
Hope this helps!

Hi Walter. Thanks for your reply. I am an Admin and can install Apps, but that's not what I want to do. As per the instructions on the Jira Admin site in Confluence - https://okapya.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CHKDOC/pages/270368840/Adding+a+Checklist+Field+to+JIRA, there's a checklist field type I should see, but I don't.

Hi @Kerri Shirey,
Looking at that screenshot, that is definitely not the cloud UI, but a (very outdated) view from a server instance.
Make sure you are looking at the cloud documentation. It is a pretty different thing!

Oh wow, good call. I'm on the right page now. Question is navigation. Documentation says to navigate to Settings > Add-ons > Checklist Definition, but that is nowhere to be found under my Settings.

Hi @Kerri Shirey,
It seems that the cloud documentation is outdated as well, apparently. In the meantime, @Sam Nadarajan seems to have chimed in with a couple of screenshots from the actual setup of the app in a working environment.
Have a look if that matches with your setup!

As per your latest question:
Are you saying that you installed the app below from the Marketplace for this checklist functionality? I was looking for something native to Jira.
There is no native checklist functionality available in Jira. This (like many other) feature can be added to your instance from the marketplace as an app. Some apps are free, some are not. But once installed and configured, they will interact with the software as if they are part of the package.
Hope this clarifies.
