Internal and External user management offboarding

Is there a difference in offboarding users when using internal or external user management?

Any user external user management, right now I'm using Crowd.

From my experience, off boarding is consistent and simpler with external user management for an organization. That's because users would have consistent credentials and off board mostly/all at once in the organization. However, if you have internal user management, the onboarding and off boarding is isolated on the application.
