Hello,
When I move a request on a kanban board up or down the column, between swimlanes, what is the field that is updated automatically (behind the scenes?
I want to use the field in a report to show the rank of the ticket.
For example, I have 5 tickets in Expedite and 1 ticket in Everything Else.
Obviously, the 5 tickets are more important, but then of the five, which one is number 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 (depends on how I shift the cards in the column).
I want to create a report that shows each ticket on a line in the order they appear on the kanban board.
I tried the field RANK in my report, but it shows some random unique characters, which are not very useful to anyone. It would be better if it showed 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.
Your help with this would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mike
Hi @Mike Bowen
Yes, and...to what Alex notes:
Rank (i.e. Lexorank) is an alphanumeric value used to solve the problem of reordering a dynamically changing list of issues. The key is: it works, so how it works is not relevant for what you ask.
You want a report to show things in the order of your board. To accomplish this, you need:
Let's assume your board filter is:
And...you use a query with a Label to indicate things are Expedite, and so your swim lane is
To get your report, you combine the two ideas, perhaps adding an in-progress check:
If you have other values for labels, that could complicate things. If you use something other than labels, please switch the filter to use that.
Kind regards,
Bill
Hi @Bill Sheboy
Thank you for your reply. Your label suggestion & StatusCategory field gave me an idea.
For me, "Labels = Expedite" is not the right field, but instead, I created an FS Priority field with priority ranking 1 to 10 and a TBC value. This FS Priority field defaults to TBC when the request is first created. It is up to the PM to assign a ranking to the FS Priority afterwards or whenever they have their standups.
In the Board Setting - Swimlanes, I created a filter "FS Priority" in (1, 2, 3...10) and assigned it to Expedite. (similar idea to your "labels in Expedite").
Finally, in my reporting tool (AIO Reports), I added the field Current Status Category and had a filter on it for the words "To Do", as I am only interested in the To-Do column.
And the results are beautiful. :-) A report that mirrors the Kanban board.
Thank you, this is exactly what I am after.
Thank you Alex for your comments.
Kind regards,
Mike

Hi @Mike Bowen
As far as I know, rank is the correct field. And yes, it displays gibberish to us. Unfortunately I do not know of another field. Interesting question though!

So you just have to vote for this issue https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-15444 and they might include a "human-readable the rank on the card in the backlog".
