The relate to link that I added to a ticket in my project for a ticket in another project was deleted. The user shown in the Issue History for this update said that they did not delete the link from their issue and suggested that it could be related to their board's Kanban workflow. How can this happen? What is the root cause for deleting the link?
Hello @Rose Campbell
There are a variety of ways a link could be deleted.
Regarding #2, when an Automation Rule executes it can run under the identity of the user that took the action that triggered the rule, or under a generic Automation for Jira identity, or under the specific identity of an individual user. Which ever identity it runs under, that is the user that would show in the Activity log as the user that deleted the link, if the Automation Rule caused the link to be deleted. The user may not themselves have deleted the link, but may have taken another action that triggered the Automation Rule that deleted the link.
Are there any other actions listed in the history at about the same time as the link deletion?
Have you looked at the history for the other issue to see what other actions occurred in that other issue at about the same time?
That information may provide a clue as to circumstances surrounding the deletion of the link.
Here is the issue history. I do not see any automation occurring at the time the links are being removed/added. Do you see any indicator in the Issue History that the link was removed due to root causes #2-5?

Have you examined the history of the related issues in the ISRR project that were linked to this issue?
In the Details area of the issue if you click on Rule Executions you will see the history of Automation Rules run against the issue. Do you see there any history of Automation Rules running about about the same time the issues where unlinked?
It does not appear that any Status Transition occurred for this issue at the same time the links were removed. That could still be a cause in the workflow for the ISRR issue.

I checked the Rule Executions in the Details are of both issues and they both have the same message:
No automations available.
No executions recorded against this issue yet.
There were no status transitions at the same time of the link removal.

Is your Jira application integrated with any third party applications that could cause changes in your Jira data?
I am running out of ideas other than a user manually removing the link.

I'm not aware of any integrations with 3rd party apps, but will check with our team. Thank you very much for your help and timely responses.
