We have tested Jira cloud using internal Jira cloud users, and are upgrading to at paid plan and connecting to our existing Active Directory. We have produced data in our projects using the free plan and the internal Jira users. Is it possible to convert to using existing users from our Active Directory, and map the internal Jira users to existing users in our AD? Both user instances uses the same email address.

Per your description, I understand that you would like to configure your user provisioning from an active directory in your Jira Cloud site, including the existing Cloud users with the same email address to the active directory you have. Is that correct?
The answer to your question depends on the Identity provider you are currently using. If you are using a supported identity provider (As Okta, OneLogin, Azure AD, Google Cloud), accounts with the same email address in both Jira Cloud and AD will be linked together once you integrate the user provisioning, and you will only be able to make changes to the user's account from your identity provider. This behavior is explicitly described in the documentation below:
Now, if you are creating a new integration with a not supported Identity provider, the answer for what would happen when integrating both AD and your Jira Cloud might change. In that case, I suggest checking your identity provider documentation to confirm how it would behave.

Does this also apply to users who only have portal customer accounts?. Will their accounts be linked together after user provisioning is integrated?
