Missing Unmapped Statuses

Ogee.Muniz July 11, 2023

I had a "Discarded" Mapping Status in my Jira Kanban board and no longer see it.  I was able to create a column called Discarded and my mapping status of the same name was there.  This allowed us to keep a history or stories that didn't need to be worked, but still allowed us visibility to them.

One day, the Discarded column and Dicarded mapping status was gone, and we aren't sure why.  Is there any way we can find out how to retrieve the Discarded mapping status?

Hi @Ogee.Muniz ,

My first guess would be that someone deleted the status/Column. Are you working with a team managed or company managed project?

Thanks, Jack.

We have many teams within my space and all their boards - columns, statuses are different - so I'm guessing team-managed.

Is there any way to recover or create a mapping status?

You can confirm the type (Team vs. Company) in lower left corner of project page, however i expect you are correct.

You can easily add the status back within a TMP but understand that when you do, none of the existing issues statuses will magically change back to the previously deleted status. When you delete a status in a workflow you will be prompted to remap any issues that might exist in the "to be deleted" status into one of the remaining statuses. Unfortunately, and understandably, simply re-adding a status doesn't allow you to undo that previous remapping.

Hopefully my answer helps you but if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

It's company-managed.

Am I still able to add a status back?

Yes. It is just a different process. Assuming you are a project admin proceed as follows.

  1. Navigate to project settings
  2. select Workflows
  3. if you have more than one workflow find the one associated with your Issuetype and click on the pencil icon to enter edit mode
  4. click on add status and complete required info then publish your draft
  5. look at your board settings and you should have the status unmapped

thinking back on the mysterious disappearance of the status, it could be that your project is sharing a workflow scheme and the organization admin changed the workflow to remove the status. If this is a shared workflow you need to coordinate with the Org admin and groups using the workflow. You may need/want to create your own workflow so that you are not at risk of future changes.

Thank you.  This helps.  I'll try to circle back on any new findings.  Thanks, Jack.
