Moving Subtasks

Beverly May 14, 2021

If I create a User story with subtasks in one Sprint. All of the subtasks are not completed in that sprint. Can I move the subtasks to the next sprint or do I have to move the entire User Story to the next sprint?

Can subtask be moved without moving the entire User Story?

Or it is good practice to just continue to move the same User Story to different sprints?

The problem is the stories are large and all the work will not be completed in one sprint.

Another option I was considering was creating tasks. Take the User Story and create tasks and link them to the User Story.  The question I have is what do I do with the User story once all the tasks are completed in different sprints

Sub-tasks are not sprint items, they are wholly a part of a story (which is a sprint item).

To "move a sub-task to another sprint", you move their parent story into the new sprint.  It's irrelevant when sub-tasks are completed, that's not measured, it's only the parent that matters.

Subtasks cannot be moved without moving the parent Story.

It is best practice to scope your stories so that they can be completed within a sprint. If your stories are too big to be completed in a sprint, consider breaking those into smaller stories with smaller scope.
