Can Jira Project Automation be used to capture a field when a date field is modified ?

I want a text field (Reason) to be filled in by the users only when an Epic Issue type's Due Date is changed to a latter date.

Can I please get some help on if this could be done using Project Automation ?

Hi Aisha,

Automation cannot be use for that sort of thing. It only performs some type of action based on a triggering action. It cannot force things to happen or pop up other screens. 

There's no way to do this in real time with Jira Cloud. You could place place a Validator in the workflow so that the issue cannot be moved if the Reason field was blank. But but that's about it.

Hi @Aisha M,

Instead of automation, there is also integration. So when you change one thing in Jira, it will get sent to a different board/project. You can set up rules so that the information gets sent when the due date is changed. Here is a link that might help!
