Cannot add a simple status to a simplified workflow requires a transition and editor will not let you. 

Very complex to me.

Just want to add a value. Absolutely not interested in controlling flow for others and do not want to restart Jira project

Hi Jim,

Are you up and running as you need to be?

Also, please remember that you shouldn't share that workflow with more than one project. If you need to do that, you should make a copy of the Simplified one and use that with your shared projects. You might not need that capability right now, but though it might be a good reminder.
