I have found what I think is a bug?

Do a search that includes an epic

Click on the epic

Click the edit button and make some changes

Save the changes

Epic is now a task

image.png image.png image.png It appears the "Epic" isn't available during an edit operation (Next Gen Project).

Any thoughts?

Taking a quick stab here. Did you or the admin configure any automation rule in the project that might change the issue type to Task due to certain condition?

It appears the "Epic" isn't available during an edit operation (Next Gen Project).

When you said that, are you saying that the value is not within the issue type dropdown field or is there any error that popped up?

No, no automation and there appears to be "due to certain fields all issue type may not be available" message

Although I did not fully understand where the next-gen project is involved in this setup (as you wrote: the "Epic" isn't available during an edit operation (Next Gen Project).) but this is showing a classic project I found a knowledge base article on the error message you are presented with.

Please kindly check if the information from the article apply.
What leaves me wondering is the fact that the Issue Type jumps from Epic to Task. I would not say for sure the error message and the effect are linked somehow.
This would need further investigation.

Let us hear from you what you found out.

Cheers,
Daniel
