On the "Settings for XXX Board" page, when I click on "Simplify Workflow" I get a non-specific error message.
How do I simplify the workflow if the error message I receive is not specific as to the cause of the error?
I have not experienced this error on other boards where we have simplified the workflow using these same steps.
Please see the screenshots attached.
Hello @Scott
Thank you for reaching out.
There are a couple of scenarios that might return an error when trying to simplify your workflow, however, I confess that I never saw the weird error displayed to you with no further details.
In order to better troubleshoot the issue, can you please try to reproduce the same error using a different browser in incognito mode? Additionally, can you check in the development tools of your browser if further details of the error are displayed?
Please, check the steps below to confirm you are not facing one of the known scenarios that could cause the error:
Let us know if you have any questions.
Hello Petter -
I'm able to reproduce the issue using Firefox, Firefox Incognito and Google Incognito.
1. The board is associated with only one project.
2. Only one workflow scheme is being used for this project:
3. I'm the Administrator for all projects and Project Lead for this board that is displaying the error. Still getting the same error.
4. Outgoing transition in place
5. There has not been a simplified workflow for this project previously, as it's a newer project.

Hello @Scott
Thank you for your answers.
Can you also please confirm if any errors are returned in the development tools of your browser when reproducing the error in each browser you tested it?
Sorry if I didn't highlight the question above in my last answer, but more details of the error in the console of the browser is the most important information to further troubleshoot your issue and search for possible causes.

I'm not a developer, so I'm unsure 'how' to use the development tools to identify issues. I know how to access the Developer Tools, but need some instruction from you.

Hello @Scott
These would be the steps to check any existing errors in the development tools console of your browser (Using Google Chrome):
Additionally to that, I see that we'll probably need further details/logs of your application background to get to the root cause of the problem, so I recommend you to open an internal ticket with our support team using the link below where we can do that without exposing any sensitive information in this public forum:
https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/
Anyway, while our support team does not get back to you on the ticket, I will keep investigating your issue when you provide us with the errors returned in your browser console.

Thanks @Petter Gonçalves for your guidance.
I followed your instruction and see 18 yellow and 6 red flags in the Console. I'll open up a support ticket.

I managed to finally change to Simplify Workflow by following suggestions here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Cannot-simplify-worflow/qaq-p/401241
One thing I missed the first time around was an old workflow previously used that was inactive. Make sure you find all previously used workflows and workflow schemes and delete them.

I am receiving the same error. Any feedback on how to resolve?
