How to include slack message link in newly created Jira tickets from Slack and vice versa?

Hey,

we have Slack workflow built to create a Jira ticket, which is working flawlessly.

I have 2 questions:

1. How to include Slack message link in Jira ticket?

As we receive many requests, it can be challenging to locate the original Slack message while working within Jira. Currently, we manually add the link to the Slack message created by this workflow to the Jira ticket.

Is it possible to automatically include the link to the message either during ticket creation or after the Jira ticket has been created?

2. How to post Jira ticket link in Slack under message which created that ticket?

We appreciate the integration of the Jira app in our Slack channel, as it allows us to quickly assign a person to handle a ticket, change its status, or directly access Jira by clicking on a link.

I have already created a Zap that triggers when a Jira ticket is created, filtering out those created from the Slack integration. The Zap posts a message with a link to the Jira ticket in a thread for the last message generated by the Slack Workflow.

I am encountering two problems:

  1. The step in Zapier where I search for the Slack message is not optimal, as if multiple requests come in a short period of time, the next Zap run will post all messages into one (the last Slack message that created the Jira ticket).

  2. When I use my user account as the posting person in Slack, the Jira link is expanded and I can perform actions such as assigning and changing the status. However, this results in me being notified of all comments under all requests in Slack. To resolve this, I switched to using a bot, but this causes the links to not be expanded.

I would love to know if this is possible and will appreciate your help.

Hi @Karol Macak,

As Actioner, we recently introduced a new app for Jira - Slack integration. You can check it out from here.

As I understand, you are looking

- to be able to directly go to Slack messages inside Jira issues.

- to be able to go to the corresponding Jira issue from Slack whenever that issue is created from Slack.

Actioner Jira Slack integration has both of these 2 features included.

1- When a new issue is created, a new notification is sent to your preferred channel. Inside the Jira issue, also a new web link is created; that gives a link to the related Slack notification. This enables you to directly access the Slack message from your Jira issues.

2- It is possible to create Jira issues by adding ticket (or another emoji of your choice) in dedicated #issue-reporting channels. Whenever an issue is created in Slack, a link to the related Jira issue is added as a thread message. It is also possible to customize these notifications with the options to take actions in Jira issues from Slack thread.

Whenever you’ve the chance, it might be worth to check it out! Please let me know if I can further help.

Best,

Hi @Karol Macak ,

Are you using Slack Free or Slack Premium?

I would like to suggest you to use Slack Workflows or if you create the tickets manually, i.e. click on the three dots on the Slack Message -> create issue from Jira Cloud

You can have a integration from your Jira project to Slack and post a message when a ticket is created for example, but you won't have it under the thread but as a new message in your channel.

To have it under the original message you need Slack workflow or to create them manually.

If you decide to create them manually, then you can create a system account, i.e. support @xxx.com and build an automation rule like:

when issue created

and description contains "Issue created in Slack"

assign the ticket to this system account

and remove the user created the ticket as watcher.

If you want to keep the requestors updated, you may also build an automation like:

When issue is updated

Send an email to the reporter and build your message.

Hope it helps!
