My understanding is that the project field is mandatory as it is the base of the hierarchy, but just got a request to create an issue without assigning it to a project.
When I create a new issue, the project drop down has an item selected by default.
Is it possible to make the project field optional and ignore it?
Thanks in advance for the support.
Hi Hector,
An issue can represent various things and it depends on the context.
For instance, an issue can represent a bug in a mobile app project whilst in a help desk project it might mean a support ticket.
An issue must belong to a project. You can double-check with create issue screen i.e project is mandatory. Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Onder

Hi Hector - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
No, it is not possible to create an issue without a Project. You could create an "Unassigned Project" project and have issues created there. Then you can do a move to the appropriate Project later.

No, it is not possible. An issue has to belong to any of the project for it to inherit all the configuration features - issue type, workflow statuses, permissions ..etc

Great to confirm it is part of the default hierarchy and mandatory.
Thanks Gikku,
